The main purpose of the USB Sharing Device Switch (USB-SDS) is providing an industrial solution for sharing one USB device (e.g. keyboard, mouse, printer etc.) between two computers.
The switching is achieved by an external control voltage (a switch, PLC etc.) of 24 VDC between M and L+K.
An auxiliary switch (C+A/B) is incorporated for indicating the current state to a third device (e.g. a PLC) or for performing additional switching of, for example, a KVM solution.
| M | Ground |
| L | Control signal for power and aux. switch |
| K | Control signal for data switch |
| USB A | USB connector type A for the switched device |
| A-C | Connected while no power on L |
| B-C | Connected while power on L |
| USB B/1 | Connected while no power on K |
| USB B/2 | Connected while power on K |
There is no interference with the USB protocol itself, just passive switching. Introducing this unit may reduce the maximum cable length allowed. USB cables are not included.
| Normal state | A to B/1 | No control voltage on L+K | A-C is closed |
| Switched state | A to B/2 | 24 VDC between M and L+K | B-C is closed |
L+K are normally connected; when not so the USB device may draw power from the other USB source.
The unit can be supplied with support for alternative control voltages above 5 VDC.
| Control voltage M – L+K | 24 VDC, 4 mA |
| Max load on A/B to C | 0.5 A at 125 VAC, 2 A at 30 VDC (60W) |
| External connections | 1x USB connector type A 2x USB connectors type B |
| Weight | 90 grams |
| Dimensions H x W x D | 100 x 75 x 24 mm |
| Installation | DIN-Rail |
| Product number | USBS01/24 |
